But the tournament did not help him to gain recognition due to his poor performance for the team. That is why, after that, he joined the Trent Bridge team in England to polish his skills. England pitches are usually quite difficult to bat on because of extreme swing, bounce and cold weather. There he made sure that everyone’s attention was glued to him. He scored 297 runs from just 3 innings at a nearly impossible average of 99.
After his stellar performances in England, he got directly selected into the Mumbai senior squad at the Vijay Hazare Trophy and thus he made his First-Class debut in 2014. The first time he got the chance of captaining any side was Delhi Capitals after Gautam Gambhir left his captaincy due to his poor form in that season mid-way. At that time he became the youngest captain to lead any side in IPL for the first time. In his first match as a captain, he scored an unbeaten knock of 93 from just 40 balls which includes 10 sixes.
